Steve Jobs became the World’s Most Powerful Brand Storyteller. Here’s How:

A Strong personal brand requires an origin story. What’s yours? Learn to craft your origin story in 3 minutes.

“Every once in a while….something comes along…that changes everything.”

I still remember Steve Jobs saying this in 2007, taking the world by storm. (You can watch it here)

Some founders are just like that.

Natural storytellers.

When they talk, people listen.

They’re charismatic. They’re competent. In simple words, they’re unstoppable.

Just like we discussed it in our GaryVee edition,

Storytelling is the bridge between where you are and where you want to be.

But you don’t really have to master the entire subject in a month. (Well, you can’t.)

Instead, what you can do is master the single most impactful craft of storytelling in business.

The same craft by which Steve Jobs became the biggest name in the tech and innovation world.

And the same craft that will make you go from an unheard voice to a charismatic leader on the internet.

It is:

The Art of Crafting Your Origin Story.

No one wants to hear a founder say:

“Oh, I went to this college to study fashion. Then, I started a fashion company. Then I scaled it. That’s how I am here.”

Imagine if this would be the origin story of Batman. Would you watch him with such fascination?

No, we love him because of his origin story.

His parents were killed. He realizes that he’s all alone. He has to figure stuff out.

Same with Iron Man, Harry Potter, and every character you fell in love with.

Stories are the most powerful way to add life to your business.

Well, but how do you do that?

Step: 1 Create a Storyboard

Think about everything that happened in your life that made you feel extreme emotions.

Positive or negative.

It doesn’t have to be a life-changing experience.

Maybe you were bullied when you were in high school.

Maybe you put together a team in university sports, and understood what being a leader felt like.

Maybe you organized a garage sale when you were 10.

Trace back to that one thing that made you feel either powerless or powerful.

Step: 2 Emotion behind your brand

List down all the emotions that your brand represents.

We have already covered “Emotions behind the brand” framework in Edition #7

For example, if you're:

Step 3: Connect the Emotion to Yourself

Try to match the storyboard to the emotion behind your business.

For example, you may notice that you run a women’s fitness company as a woman. Meanwhile, during school, you were bullied by other men. That’s what inspired you to follow your fitness and strength journey.

Do you have any idea how powerful this story is?

When you tell the world about it, they won’t just feel for you.

They won’t just trust you.

They would make you a part of themselves.

Every girl out there who feels powerless will call you her role model.

And that’s perfect.

Voila! You just created your origin story.

While this might feel a little cringe while structuring and telling it to everyone,

But trust me, your audience wants to hear it.

After all, humans are just emotional creatures.

We want to learn more through stories rather than frameworks or theories.

So there we have it.

A complete breakdown of building your origin story.

I firmly believe that reverse engineering the industry's top leaders can create magic for your personal branding journey.

And that’s what I promise to bring to your life. Magic.
